Jigsaw is a Pupil Referral Unit for primary-aged children. Our pupils come to us because they face social, emotional, or behavioural challenges that make learning in a mainstream school difficult.
At Jigsaw, we’re dedicated to supporting our pupils in developing the skills and strategies they need to thrive in a regular school setting. We focus on their social, emotional, and mental health, providing a well-rounded curriculum that helps them progress academically.
Working alongside partner agencies, parents, and the local authority, we aim to create exciting and impactful learning environments for our children. We believe in crafting personalised learning plans that inspire each child and encourage them to become lifelong learners. Our goal is to help every young person gain the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to reach their full potential. By building self-esteem, confidence, and resilience, we prepare our pupils for a successful return to their chosen educational setting.
Jigsaw offers short-term support to help pupils transition back to mainstream education. If this isn’t possible right away, we will assist pupils while we find a suitable educational option for them.
Places at Jigsaw are allocated through the Fair Access Panel (or Monitoring and Placement for permanent exclusions). If your child’s school wants to refer a student to Jigsaw, they will need to fill out the required form and submit it to the Fair Access Panel, which meets every two weeks. The panel will assess the application, and the referring school will receive a response soon after.
Our school is a single-storey building featuring three classrooms, a teaching kitchen, a hall, an office area, and two enclosed playgrounds, along with a special play area for Key Stage 1. Each classroom has a small kitchen and designated ‘breakaway’ spaces for group work and interventions.
Mission Statement
To provide a safe, secure learning environment where all pupils can fulfil their potential.

Purpose
Jigsaw is an alternative provision within Sefton for pupils whose behaviour within a mainstream school has led to them being at increased risk of exclusion, or who have been permanently excluded.
Our provision seeks to help children address and overcome social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, which may, for some, have led to academic underachievement.
It is our intention to support and facilitate the successful reintegration of pupils into their host schools or transition to an appropriate, alternative provision.
Aims
Staff at Jigsaw endeavour to:-
- Prepare pupils for re-integration into their sending school or an alternative mainstream school, or an alternative educational provision which can better meet their individual needs.
- Develop skills for life
- Raise self-esteem
- Encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own actions
- Develop positive relationships with all within the unit
- Support pupils by identifying strengths and barriers to learning
- Establish a caring and supportive ethos in an atmosphere of mutual respect
- Promote pupils’ emotional health and wellbeing
- Enable pupils to achieve their best in all areas of the curriculum
- Promote tolerance and understanding of other people’s needs and differences
