Class 1

Welcome to Class 1!

Your Class Teacher is Mr O'Hara

Your support staff are Mrs Green and Miss Roper

Useful Information:

P.E:

The children will have P.E every week! Full P.E kits with suitable footwear (trainers) should be worn every Wednesday.

Water Bottles:

All children must bring a named water bottle to school each day please.

Coats:

As we go into the colder months of the year, please can you ensure your child is provided with a warm, winter coat so that they can still enjoy their playtime out on the playground whatever the weather! Please also ensure these are labelled with names clearly.

Book Bags:

Children should bring in their book bags to keep any letters and reading books safe. The children will be given a new reading record when they start and we encourage you to note the occasions that your child reads at home - this can be a book from school or home.  Children will be read with on a daily basis in school and this book will then be sent home to read as reading this at home again will help increase their understanding and fluency.

Spellings:

Spellings linked to their daily phonics lessons will be sent home on a Tuesday and the children will be tested on these on a Friday.

Phonics and Reading in Class 1

In Class 1 we use the Read Write Inc (RWI) programme to get children off to a flying start with their English. RWI is a method of learning centred round letter sounds and phonics, and we use it to aid children in their reading and writing.

Reading opens the door to learning. A child who reads a lot will become a good reader. A good reader will be able to read more challenging material. A child who reads challenging material is a child who will learn. The more a child learns, the more he or she will want to find out.

If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to ring via the school office!

Thank you for your support
